model types may vary from simple massing and siting strategies working up to finished models in both 3D digital form or by a physical model made of materials ranging from simple craft cardboard, even brown cardboard boxes to high end finished balsa wood models
people conceive and interpret design in many ways, for some a plan is sufficient to get a mental picture of what their project will look like, for others the physical model may elicit certain responses that assist to understand a project or to confirm and/or eliminate ideas
modelling also serves to elicit poetic responses to climate, site, orientation, light, materiality and construction methods, the effects of which can be easily translated into architectural details
